Stigma-Free Pit Zone!
Members of the UNC community were invited to write stigmatizing words and phrases they had encountered, place them on the floor underneath bubble wrap, and stomp the word out. Some of our members also enjoyed salsa'ing out stigma. It was a day filled with catharsis and great conversations on language.
Spring Retreat
We spent the night at the Campus Y writing letters of support to each other, watching TED talks about mental health, dancing, laughing, chalking out, and sharing friendship at Rethink's first ever Spring Retreat.

On March 25, 2014, Rethink: Psychiatric Illness, UNC Black Student Movement, and UNC Nupes joined together to host a conversation on African American Mental Health and the relationship between racism, oppression and mental illnesses with UNC psychology graduate student Shawn Jones.
National Eating Disorders Awareness Week
Active Minds hosted National Eating Disorders Awareness Week at UNC. On Wednesday, Rethink hosted "Intersectionality Day" at the pit, where we talked to students about the importance of including all voices. When little research has been conducted on the prevalence of eating disorders among minority groups, and the media portrays eating disorders as a "disease of straight white cis women" who are we leaving out of the conversation?
Valentine's Day Letters to a Stranger
Valentine's Day can be a hard day, so we prepared and wrote letters to a stranger to hand out to our UNC peers. You are important and amazing and you matter!

Painting the Expression Board
Rethink members painted a large wooden board as preparation for Mental Health Awareness Week. During MHAW, UNC students were given the chance to write, paint, or decorate a positive message about mental illness and recovery on the expression board.
To prepare for Mental Health Awareness Week 2013, we painted our Rethink Expression Board.
No paint brushes? No problem!
